Laisa
Finding new opportunities to earn and serve a community.
We joined a group of 7 lenders by contributing $25 to Laisa’s microloan on July 24, 2021.
Laisa has an existing frozen food business where she sells frozen drinks and sweets.
But, she was seeking this loan (her second from Kiva) to expand her business to include offering kava for the people in her community. Kava, a traditional drink that is consumed by many Pacific Islanders, has a cultural significance to Fijians and many in her community travel to other villages to buy it.
She will buy fresh kava plants, sun-dry and pound them, and then pack them into bags to sell for $2 or $5. She will set her packaging apart from others by attaching chasers (lollies) to each bag.
By expanding her business, Laisa can create an income to support her family now and in the future.
