Our mission was not started. It was inspired.
The very first loan we made to Faostine was not intended to lead us here. It resulted from a friendly bet with a friend and co-worker (Hi, Tom) where either outcome was a donation to charity. And through that donation, we were introduced to Kiva.
That first loan was not the start of our fund, but it was the start of a family conversation. It started discussions with our daughter about perspective and empathy. Those conversations followed us on a trip to Grammy and Pop Pop’s house. While visiting, our daughter won $20 as part of a family tradition.
What happened next was absolutely inspiring… She told us she wanted to give her $20 to someone “who could use it more than me“. So we used her $20 to fund our second loan to Fayzimo. And that’s when it all started.
